Throughout this week I have tried to be very prayerful as I've reviewed the lesson topic for June. I have to confess that I almost wanted to roll my eyes when I saw we were approaching "The Priesthood" section of the manual.
There may or may not have been some inner complaining dialogue in my mind as I thought to myself, "Why do the young women have to spend an ENTIRE MONTH focused on the priesthood?"
I was then greeted with a little silent thought popping into my head that I now believe was inspired by the spirit. "Good question, Jesse. Why do YOU think Heavenly Father wants the young women to spend an entire month focusing on the priesthood?"
. . . Humbled.
The Lord knows what's best for these young women and for me. Obviously there's a wonderful reason why the Lord wants the youth to have a strengthened testimony of the priesthood today. Perhaps it's because their generation will need it more as women seem to have been struggling with the priesthood now more than ever. Maybe it's because these girls will especially need these lessons to help prepare for missions and motherhood.
Whatever the reason, I have taken it on as a challenge and will spend my week developing a better understanding as to why these lessons are so important.
President Utchdorf tells us to forget not the "why" of the gospel. While understanding the "what" and the "how" of the gospel is necessary, the eternal fire and majesty of the gospel springs from the "why."
Recently I wrote a post about my personal thoughts regarding women and the priesthood here for anyone interested in reading it.
I tried searching everywhere for a list showing how the keys of the priesthood transfer down into each position and the best version I could find was from a junior primary coloring page. I think I'll just make a diagram on the board and work with the girls to fill it out throughout the lesson.
I found this Priesthood Title Match-Up game on sugardoodle that I'm hoping the girls will enjoy as an introduction to the lesson. I made a "less primary" version below for anyone that's interested in using it.
You can download the handout here.
It wasn't suggested in the outline, but if anyone is going into this lesson with any questions unanswered, I strongly suggest studying this lesson.
